The legacy of childhood trauma is a challenge like no other. Part of the challenge is that persistent early trauma tends to impair the skills we need to face it—and even to see it. I help survivors develop the ability to recognize and overcome a difficult childhood. Four decades in practice have taught me that, with compassion and guidance, courage can transform pain into resilience and even transcendence.
My methods combine the collective wisdom of clinicians with up-to-date academic research. I learn who you are and develop a relationship while helping you identify your wounds, developmental delays, and maladaptive responses to trauma. Treatment includes psychotherapy, workshops, mindfulness training, and self-care. My goal is to go beyond healing to long-term personal growth, empowerment, and satisfaction with life.
The services I offer include:
- Individual, group, family, and relationship therapy.
- Mental health treatment.
- Addiction treatment, including alcohol use disorder, drug abuse, sex and love addiction, gambling addiction, internet addiction, compulsive shopping, and other process addictions.
My specialties are: complex trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder, addiction and addictive behaviors, domestic violence, sexual assault, incest, child abuse, codependency, and gay, lesbian, and transgender issues.
I also offer education and consultation on any of these topics.
Prospective clients should be advised that I currently have limited openings for individual therapy. That said, if you’re not in crisis, a good match can be worth waiting for. I recommend you read my book, Iron Legacy: Childhood Trauma and Adult Transformation, and, if it resonates with you, use the form on my Contact page to indicate your interest in working together. Another option might be participating in a Legacy Workshop, if that meets your needs.
